Is AA a Cult?
Question by Rebecca K: Is AA a cult?
I am mandated to attend AA. I believe with all my heart and sould that it is a psychologically damaging, ineffective, brainwashing cult. People tell me I am “in denial” and I am a dry drunk, destined for failure. I will end up in jail, an institution, or dead if I do not do the steps,,,,ie admit my character defects and make a list of people I have wronged. I tell them that I just made a mistake….(only drink once every 6 months before arrest) and I want to move on. I refused to label myself an alcoholic when I know it was just an immature mistake. How can I survive this cult?
Anyone thats says it is not a cult is an absolute moron. Oh I’m not facing who I am? Because I don’t believe I am a powerless person and dont want to become worthless like everyone else in AA? Because I am NOT an alcoholic and therefore I do not need help…..If I don’t drink why do I need to do the 12 steps? How will convincing myself I am powerless and telling myself I am worthless help me in life?
Haha a lot of coerced AAers must use yahoo answers. AA is a cult! Bottom line! Read AA:Cult or Cure or AA Unmasked: Deception and Deliverance. They will enlighten you!
I like how I specifically say “I am not an alcoholic” and people write “You have 5% odds of getting sober” Get sober?? I AM sober. And AA will be there when I need help? Help for what??? I am already sober….You guys are in a cult
I don’t know it is just funny to me…..People automatically assume that I have no “found Jesus” and that I am not religous….And if you have an OWI then boy oh boy you must be a troubled person with sex offender parents or a alcoholics as parents. People forget logic and make severe jumps in logic. They assume that just becaue you drove above the legal limit once you are a troubled, alcoholic. Afterall, we must jump to conclusions and make stereotypes. And we also assume that an OWI offender is not religious. You people need to take a class in logic!!

Do I Have to Be in Drug Counselling My Whole Life?
Question by Shabu Shabu: Do I have to be in Drug Counselling my whole life?
45 years ago my dad let me take a sip of his beer. About 8 years ago the government found out.
I have been in Court-Ordered Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous classes ever since. I’ve never tried drugs, and have not had beer since that incident in the 1960’s! I’m a coffee drinker and a book worm. Alcohol makes you stupid and I never drank it.
These classes are really annoying. I have to take 24 hours of classes a week. Three for each, three times a week, and half-time on weekends. Everything I do, I am accused of “relapsing” and getting put back in a hospital or jail! My “sponsor” is a crack-head and thinks anytime I do ANYTHING it’s because of my “addiction” or my “disease”.
