Alcoholic Enabler: I Think My Mom Is an Alcoholic and Its Interfering With My Life. What Can I Do?

Question by heartsandstars: I think my mom is an alcoholic and its interfering with my life. What can I do?
I’m only 17 so I still live at home and I don’t have the option of moving out and getting away from this. My mom isn’t like a heavy drinker/full blown alcoholic but she’s drunk pretty much everyday. She drinks from about 4pm until she passes out on the couch. She gets really tipsy and annoying and slurs her words and very touchy feely…you know that kind of drunk. It makes me sad to see her this way. She doesn’t have a job so she’s home all the time/I never have any time to myself. I mostly have to deal with her alone because my dad is a workaholic and doesn’t realize how bad it is. My mom relies on everyone else to make her happy and she doesn’t really have a life – that sounds mean but I think it fuels the drinking a lot. She’s a really emotional person and is completely suffocating me to the point where I can’t focus on school because I am so completely stressed 100% of the time.
I really have no idea what to do here to help her – and for the sake of my OWN sanity. I’m more or less on my own with this and I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up.
