My Mom Abuses Perscription Medication?

Question by caitlyn: My mom abuses perscription medication?
She abuses pills such as Xanax or pills like the sort, for anxiety. My mom does have anxiety, so it is fine that she takes them in the first place, but my mom has had a long history of abusing medication. She would abuse narcotics that started 10 years ago but ended around 5 years ago, then she switched to anxiety pills. I’m not sure how many pills she takes, but she takes enough to where her speech is slurred and you can tell her personality and thought process is distorted. She does not act like my mother. She goes on “cleaning” binges and will clean for 14 hours straight, sleep, then get up and clean again! Also she has a full time job and works mon-fri as a social worker. She sometimes will stay late until like 9 p.m. To get her work done, NEVER does she do this when she’s not on the medication. Id say she is on the pills for about a month, takes a month break, then gets on them for another month. I am 19, and I have a brother & sister that are older than me that live at home. My mom also has a husband (my dad) that lives here too. When she’s on the meds we all get depressed and sad that she’s on them. My dad gets extremely angry that she does this, and so do I. I want nothing to do with her when she’s on them because she acts drunk-like and a zombie. Her parents were extreme alcoholics and her sister was too, she passed away due of alcohol poisoning about 5 years ago. My mom tells me that she is on these pills because she is so stressed with her work, house chores, bills, and everything else she has to deal with. My mom stopped these pills about 4 months ago for 3 months, and we finally thought she was done. But no she recently got on them about 2 weeks ago. I need my mom back. We all do, we need her to stop this. I know she wants to too, but she can’t. I don’t know what to do. My mom is our rock in our family, and without her we are lost. I just don’t think “rehab” would help because those are for what a week or 2 or a month idk, but my mom has no problem stopping taking them for a month, the only problem is she ALWAYS relapses. What can I do to help my mother? She seems to put herself in this “pity party” when she’s on the pills. I just am so lost. Please help.
It’s disgusting how serious this is & how some people take it as a joke. If you don’t know how to answer this question seriously and respectfully, than don’t. Simple as that.
