Child Custody Battle Between Disabled Mom and Alcoholic Father, Who Will Win?
Question by Sugar G: Child custody battle between disabled mom and alcoholic father, who will win?
I am physically disabled, and I have bipolar. I have a very low income. I get housing assistance and disability. I divorced my ex husband 8 years ago for domestic violence. A year later, I forgave him, and we became “okay” friends again.
My ex and I spend a lot of time together. He goes to work sometimes, lives with his parents, and is an alcoholic. His parents also take care of him and pay all of his bills.
We always argue because he wants his son to spend days & nights at his grandparents house which is also his house. But my ex husband rarely spends any time with his son when he is there.
Also, when my son is there, the grandparents are so nice to him, and buy him lots of cool toys & video games, that he doesn’t even want to come back to my house. He cries and says, why can’t I live with my grandparents all the time.
Basically, my question is, “Who will win custody of my son if this goes back to court… Me or my ex husband?”
Thanks so much.

I would think that you would win. You have a more stable living environment despite your low income. Now if the grandparents stepped in and tried to have you proven unfit they might get the upper hand and win the child.
