Subtle Signs Your Kid Might Be Abusing Alcohol

Our kids grow up fast. There is no doubt about that. We can often fail to realize as much as it happens and that can lead to a host of problems. One is when kids start abusing alcohol and parents do not notice it happening. How could this happen? It is pretty simple.

Alcohol abuse among teenagers is hardly breaking news. That being said, it is one of the problems that parents seem to have the most problem noticing. This is often because the conduct in question has both physical and social lines that are blurred at best. How so? Let’s take a look.

What do kids do in school? Well, obviously they go and get an education, but they also socialize. It is party of high school to be social and that means attending parties and the like. How often is alcohol available at these parties? Far more than any parent would admit or like to know. Consider the case of the hard alcohol bottles.

Most homes have a liquor cabinet. Kids definitely know this. So, what happens when they need alcohol? They pour part of the alcohol into another container and then fill the bottle back up with water and return it to your liquor cabinet. If you feel like you have a much higher tolerance for alcohol these days, you probably have this problem.

Is there anything you can do to monitor your kids in regard to alcohol abuse? Sure. The name of the game is aggressive involvement. Let your kids go to parties. You can’t protect them forever. That being said, make sure you are awake when they come home and keep an eye on them to determine if they’ve been drinking. As for your liquor cabinet, try placing a small mark on the current levels just to see what happens over time. You might be surprised.

Alcohol addiction is a huge problem world wide. Adults have enough problems with it, so make sure your kids don’t have much of a chance if you let them get hooked. Don’t!
