Get Over the Hangover

Get over the hangover

Once in a while, it is good to let loose and have a little fun. Be it a bachelor party, a girls or boys night out, getting together with friends during the holidays, crashing a wedding with an open bar, it is ok to get a little crazy and have a few too many. While most people are willing to drink responsibly  or not at all because they happen to be the designated  driver, or have other responsibilities  such as getting up and bringing the kids to school, some of us  can end up getting carried away and going a little overboard only to regret it the next morning.

There is nothing like ringing in a new year by hugging a toilet seat and vowing “never again” or sitting around the next day nursing a headache and wishing everyone could just keep the damn noise down. Hangovers suck, especially the stomach aches, the throbbing head, and the aching muscles. Forcing yourself to live through the next day of getting the kids lunch or taking Fido out can be torture, but the worl is not going to sit by and patiently wait for you to feel better.

If only there was some secret miracle concoction out there that could whisk all the pain and suffering away. If only there were things that you could do before you go out and paint the town red that will limit the amount of regret the next day. Oh, wait a minute, there is.

First, here are some tips to help prevent a hangover:

Be sure to drink plenty of other fluid before going out and drinking. Alcohol dehydrates your system and those massive headaches the next day are actually your body’s way of telling you that it needs more water. Do your best not to mix different types of alcohol together. Different level of alcohol and sugar content can really upset your system . Do not mix alcohol with medication. This could lead to some serious complications. Bigger people can absorb more alcohol and younger folks have a tendency to tolerate it more. Men also have the capacity to handle more alcohol then women even if they are the same height and weight. The best way to avoid a hangover is to declare yourself a designated driver and not drink at all.

Okay, so now you have some guideline on how to best avoid a morning of regret. You are ready to go out. You start out with a cold beer, this loosens you up. You have another, then your long lost pal shows up and buys a round of shots. Not wanting to feel like a cheap skate, you find yourself getting a round. Next thing you know, you are trashed. Thankfully, someone took your car keys and called you a cab. You wake up the next day and realize you had not planned to drink so much and now you have a full blown hangover. Now what do you do.

What to do if you already have a hangover:

Do not drink more alcohol the next day. A little hair of the dog does not work and is never a good idea. Drink lots of water to help dilute the alcohol in your bloodstream. Headache medicines such as acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen can help. Just be aware that there is a danger of mixing drugs with alcohol. Having a good throw up session can help you purge some of the alcohol that has not yet been absorbed into your bloodstream. Just be sure to drink water too, since coffee is a diuretic and can make things worse, especially if you try to drink it before going to bed.

Now that you got your tips, go out there and have some fun. Just be sure to stay safe and never to drink and drive.
