Why Have I Been Given the Diagnosis “Non-Specified Pychosis”?
Question by ALIENshe: Why have I been given the diagnosis “non-specified pychosis”?
I found out recently from my CPN that my official diagnosis is “non-specified pychosis”
I looked this up and apparantly this means that I don’t fit the criteria for paranoid Schizophrenia, disorganised Schizophrenia or catatonic Schizophrenia.
I really don’t want the diagnosis of Schizophrenia but I’m curious as to why my symptoms don’t meet the criteria for paranoid Schizophrenia.
I have episodes where I hear 4 different voices in my head (3 male, one female) they talk to me, telling me to kill myself, hurt myself and to kill other people, I get very distressed by these voices and I’ve tried to kill myself a few times because of them,I’ve been hearing them consistantly for more than 2 years. I also get quite paranoid that the police are following me or that one of the voices is going to posess me and make me kill people, on one occasion I was convinced I needed to drain out the blood in my body to stop her possessing me (I ended up cutting through the tendons in my wrist instead :-/)
Just out of curiosity, why is it that I don’t meet the criteria for a diagnosis of paranoid Schizophrenia?

Don’t know hun.
I am sorry to hear what you are going through.
I am going through very similar things like you.
So I understand.
I was in hospital for about 3 weeks and now I am under home treatment.
I get thoughts that if I cut and let blood out it will get rid of some of the bad things my unknown enemy put in my food or something.
I was offered medication, took it when I was in the mental hospital to get out sooner and now I stopped it.
I am going through hell.
Please, you can write to me and we can be pen palls.
We got a lot in common.
I wish you get well soon.
Bye for now
