For years feminism has promoted the idea that in order to be equal to men, women SHOULD do everything that men do. The bad news is that feminism has promoted the view of men as workoholic, arrogant, violent, drunken, abusive etc, and that seem to be what many women aspire to these days. A classic example is highlight by a report that paints a sorry picture of teenage girls and alcohol abuse in the UK:
“The study saw girls reporting higher levels of recent drunkenness than boys. …It is clearly no longer socially unacceptable for females to drink heavily or to become intoxicated. This may reflect factors such as greater female social and economic empowerment and changing social roles as well as the marketing practices of the beverage alcohol industry.”

Why is it that whenever there is a societal shift that affects female behaviour in a negative way, you have to put the blame on feminism? And then turn around and criticize feminists for giving credit to a positive effect?
Feminism never promoted the idea that women should get drunk. All it said was that women and men should be held to equal standards when it comes to drinking and all else. The fact that women have started to binge has more to do with competitiveness among friends than feminism.
Anyone who blames feminism for any inebriated escapades of theirs has no sense of responsibility. I know when to stop drinking. Everyone should.
EDIT: But feminism never lowered the drinking standards for anyone. If feminists ever took an en masse position on binge drinking at all, it was that it was a very bad idea.
EDIT: Or maybe feminists tend to take the position that neither women nor men should get drunk for the hell of it. That would be in everyone’s best interests, wouldn’t it?
EDIT: That doesn’t mean feminists encourage binging on any of these things. Everyone ought to know their limits.
