My Friend and I Are Having a Debate on What Constitutes Being an “alcoholic”. Opinions?

Question by Jade Poe: my friend and I are having a debate on what constitutes being an “alcoholic”. opinions?
she says it’s if you can drink nearly a twelve pack of beer and still walk in a straight line to get another than you’re probably an alcoholic. so basically how much you drink and the higher your tolerance to it.

I think it doesn’t matter how much you drink and how well you hold your booze, but whether or not it’s if you can function without it on a regular everyday basis. if it’s not something you crave all the time (kinda like a cigarrette craving). like if you have to have two or three beers in the morning to be able to function well, then you’re an alcoholic.

what do you think?

It is generally thought that you are an alcoholic if when you drink (doesn’t matter how much or how often) it negatively affects your life by making you do things you otherwise wouldn’t and you can’t stop doing it.
