I am estranged from my father and have been for years. He is a drug addict, alcoholic and just completely mentally ill. During my childhood (after parents divorced) he would disappear for several years at a time, and would literally pop up out of nowhere when he was in another one of his “recovering alcoholic” periods. He would make a bunch of promises and promise to do right by my brother and I, only to turn right around a month or so later and disappear again. He would call me up out of the blue and make up lies and ask to borrow money (when I turned 15 and got my 1st job) and then disappear again until he needed more money.
He never paid a cent in child support to my mom. RARELY came to see me. I got married and he called me several times drunk over the years. I have refused to see him, but now I just heard he is very ill and in a mental hospital. No one knows how long he has. We have NO relationship and I don’t even know how I feel about him anymore.
Would you go see him?
There’s far more to my story, but no room to tell it.
The man is literally crazy and a compulsive liar who made my childhood miserable.
