AA State of “Denial” ?

Question by abnjim5: AA State of “Denial” ?
Alcoholics Anonymous tells people that if they do not admit that they are alcoholic, they are in a state of denial. Moreover, AA’s disease concept (theory) of addiction to substances “suggests” that the drugee must have a higher power or God to beat drug addiction.

If a person attempts to take control of their behaviour of addiction to the drug alcohol(alcohol is a drug), they are in denial.

Am I in denial?

What is the purpose of the statment “denial” in AA?

AA Cult or Cure?

Penn&Teller did a fairly comprehensive exposé on AA. It turns out that their success rate isn’t any better than trying to go cold turkey. However, you have to go with what works for you. There alternatives to AA that are more secular in nature.
