I’ve Been Sick With a Low Grade Fever for Too Long. Looking for Advice?

Question by Michael: I’ve been sick with a low grade fever for too long. Looking for advice?
Okay all of this started on 4/4. I woke up with a slight sore throat and a little cough/ headache.. Mainly just felt like sinus or allergy problem. I went to my doc and got a celestone(spelling)? Shot and a prescription for a z-pack. Everything went back to normal and then on 4/13 I woke up feeling like I had been hit by a truck. My whole body ached and I had a fever. So I went back to the doc and got a strep test which came back fine, another celestone shot and another z-pack. On the 4th day of taking antibiotics (4/16) I began to feel horrible. Fever, pain in my lower neck and upper chest when I tried to take deep breaths. I tried to ride it out but the fever would not go away so on 4/19 went back and was given urine test, chest x-ray, and blood work. Urine came back fine, he said there were a few “streaks” on the x-ray but he wasn’t worried about them. Then he checked my prostate which was a little tender so he diagnosed me with prostatitis. The bloodwork showed slightly elevated white blood cells which he told me was a sign of a bacterial infection. I was given a horrible shot of rocephrin? And prescribed ciprofloxacin. My problem is I feel like I don’t have any symptoms of prostatitis except for “flu like symptoms”. No frequent urination, painful urination etc.. I got another shot of rocephrin yesterday and am scheduled for one more today. My only symptoms are a persistent fever 99-101.5 mainly at night and when I take advil for it I wake up drenched from bad night sweats. Any advice?
Sorry I think the horrible shot they’ve been giving me is rocephin
Thank both of you for the advice.. I went back on Thursday( before I saw the mono post) and when the doc saw that I still had a fever he gave me another chest x-ray and said the “wisp” he saw was now more of a “streak” but he said he doesn’t hear anything at all when he listens to my chest. Also, starting on Thursday I had watery diarrhea so he was worried it was from all the aggressive antibiotic treatment. Now I’m on three other antibiotics, one of which will cure pneumonia. Since then I’ve felt a little better but still not good enough fast enough for my liking. Since this is easter weekend I’ve got to wait till Monday and if I’m not feeling any better I’m gonna go and ask for a mono test which he has not given me yet. My only symptoms now are the low-grade fever( which is a bit lower most of the time), the night sweats, and a dry cough. I’m definitely starting to think it’s viral if not worse. I already suffer from anxiety so this isn’t helping and my bpm has been higher than norma

Have you been checked for mono? It is viral and antibiotics will not help. With all the antibiotics you have had, if it had been bacterial, you should be well by now. Mono fits a lot of the symptoms you are having, sore throat, body aches and fever and night sweats. Mono causes an elevation of white cells in the blood called lymphocytes. Go back and ask for a mono spot blood test if they have not already done one.
