How to Do an Intervention for an Alcoholic: How Do I Get My Parents to Stop Drinking?
Question by Miss secretgal: How do I get my parents to stop drinking?
Its getting to the point where my dad is killing himself, ive tried lots of times to talk to him and he doesn’t listen. It’s hard watching your dad slowly killing himself, hes been hospitalized a couple of times due to drinking, he’s had doctors orders to stop drinking. He’ll stop for a few weeks but after that it’s back to the old habits. It hurts me a lot, and I’m 13 btw so they don’t even take me seriously. Help !

It’s won’t matter if you are 13 or 31 they will not take you seriously. Alcoholism is a monster, and part of that is Denial. An alcoholic Has a lot more issues than just the simple fact that they need to quit drinking. If I were you I would call tell them you are going to call CPS if they refuse to qyit and find someone else to live with. Get all of their loved ones together and Tell them that if they Don’t go to Treatment, you will leave, and they will lose more and more of their loved ones, and be serious. An alcoholic needs to hit “Rock Botttom” Before they can quit drinking and maybe they will see that they are at the bottom with an intervention….Unfortunately, some Alcoholics “Rock Bottom” is Death and they never will learn, Just like my own father. My Heart goes out to you, but you need to give them an intervention, and start attending Alanon meetings to learn how to cope
