Our mission is to give inmates a noble purpose, which will help prepare them to re-enter society; and to keep kids off the streets, in school and out of gangs… First, we take the Peace Initiative, which is already showing significant and measurable results in the decrease of violence in Georgia’s most dangerous prison, to more state prisons. As peace begins to spread throughout these correctional facilities and men realize greater freedom, then the programs already in place that deal with faith, education, anger management, relapse & recovery, life & job skills, and re-entry preparation will become more effective and productive… Next, the Power of Peace Project will take the Peace Initiative into alternative high schools. The Alternative High School Initiative was created in 2003 with generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Alternative high schools help kids who have dropped out, flunked out, gotten kicked out, or just haven’t fit into mainstream education. These “second chance” schools help many kids get back on track, and some go onto college as well. Unfortunately, many don’t make it because of violence, gangs, bullies, drug and alcohol abuse, and teenage pregnancy.
