Breathalyzer-Alcoholics- and How They Handle Alcohol?

Question by Chris: breathalyzer-alcoholics- and how they handle alcohol?
I’m 22 and my brother is 24. We had a little get together with all our friends. My brother Mark is an alcoholic. He drinks about a fifth a day. I bought a breathalyzer (brand name BacTrack model S80) a few weeks ago and we had a little get together and we fallowed the instructions on the breathalyzer (to blow until it beeps two times and not to drink or smoke for 15 minutes prior to testing). Mark had drank ALOT more then everyone else at the party. I blew a .11 and I personally thought I was intoxicated before I even took the test. Mark (my brother, the alcoholic) blew a .23 and seemed to not be intoxicated at all. In fact after the breathalyzer we gave him a “field sobriety” test similar to those given on traffic stops and he passed. He also managed to walk completely straight and not slur or act intoxicated. Does alcohol effect alcoholics in a different way then non-alcoholics? How on earth could he do these tasks while almost 3x a the legal limit?
