Would My GP Prescribe Antidepressants?

Question by Just Me…: Would My GP Prescribe Antidepressants?
I’m 16 years old and today i realised i need help. I’ve been self harming for three years and have felt utterly depressed. Recently, everything has got a lot worse and i’ve spent hours going over in my head possible ways to end my life, i even have a “plan b”. I told my close friend this and he urged me to go and see a doctor. I took the advice and went and made an appointment.
I’ve researched my “symptoms” because i don’t want to be told i’m wasting time and i’ve discovered that a lot of what i’m experiencing could be caused by depression.
Now, being that i’m only 16, would my doctor prescribe me any form of medication for what i’m experiencing? Please don’t judge me, i KNOW that what i’m doing to myself is wrong and thasts why i’m TRYING to get myself the help i need before its too late…and the way i’ve been feeling the past few months, too late could be soon…
Thankyou for your time…
Beth

he or she might, or they may just refer you to psychiatry. They could also do the medical management themselves and you could get counseling from a psychologist. If it is really bad you may get inpatient treatment.
Whatever happens, I hope they get you the help you need.
Good luck.
