Stop the Hypocracy!
Stop The Hypocracy!
STOP THE HYPOCRACY!
I can remember growing up in the sixties. All my relatives, parents, uncles, aunts, cousins and all their friends drank alcoholic drinks and smoked cigarettes. I grew up not thinking anything about it. It was just something that everybody did when they came of age. I can remember lying in bed at night listening to my parents yelling at each other after one of their parties.
The politicians have since gone after the cigarette smokers with a vengeance. Even though everybody knows deep down inside that the second hand smoke from their cars is really what’s killing everybody. I laugh when I see an irate woman telling a smoker to put out their cigarette and that “look” on their face as if they single handedly saved the human race from second hand smoke. Then they jump in their twelve mile a gallon SUV and speed off.
When are we going to wake up? In the 70’s we stopped the cigarette companies from advertising period. We didn’t want them influencing our young people or anybody else for that matter and right we should! Cigarettes are bad for everybody and I don’t believe anybody will argue that point.
As bad as cigarettes are, alcoholic beverages are far worse and I don’t think anybody with half a brain could argue that point either. The problem is that we as an American people have not found a politician with enough back bone or morals to do what’s best for society. I am sure that there are plenty of studies and facts to back up what I am saying, if anybody’s really interested. The problem is, as it was in the sixties, most everybody drinks and doesn’t want anything to do with this problem.
What I want to see is the same treatment that we gave the tobacco companies. Give it also to the alcohol beverage companies as well. Since we are out to do the right thing, let’s stop the alcoholic beverage companies from advertising. Let them stop telling our teenagers that the way to pick up women is to just drink the right drink. This nation is creating a nation of alcoholics and has been since I can remember. If someone wants to drink they should at least have all the facts in front of them so they can make an intelligent decision.
How can we, as a society, in good conscience, allow these alcoholic beverage companies to advertise their lies to the gullible youth of our Nation. They have our youth believing that by drinking their product they will be popular, successful, have any women they want and be the “life of the party”. When in reality just the opposite is true. The sad truth is when you drink you become loud, obnoxious and rude. The type of person that no women ever wants to be with or even near. The only people you attract are other loud, obnoxious, and rude drunks and instead of becoming a success, you become a loser who will become a bad husband, a bad employee and end up in bad health. This is the kind of truth in advertising our youth really need to hear, not the lies that the alcoholic beverage companies shove down our throats every few minutes on our televisions every day.
What this country needs is a law that states “any company that sells a product that is addicting and/or habit forming, will not be allowed to advertise their product on any medium.” I am not saying that we should ban alcoholic beverages altogether. We tried that in the 30’s with no success. I would sure like to see anti-drinking campaigns just like what we do with the tobacco companies because everybody knows that drinking has destroyed more families and lives than smoking ever has and has cost this country in health care costs, destroyed families, injuries and death on our highways, lost man hours at work, poor performance at work and has helped to break down the morals of our country. We need to stop this insanity as soon as possible.
