First off, in your opinion, what is a true alcoholic? But my main question, why does it seem like what I deem a “true alcoholic” doesn’t need anyone, only the alcohol?

You’re correct.
A 100% alcoholic is like a drug addict.
It’s all they live for.

Now there are “Functioning Alcoholics”.
They drink excessively but may work everyday and function normally.
They hold the alcohol without impairment.

I’ve known a couple.
Never saw them appear to be drunk.
Course, I may never have seen them sober.
