My Alcoholic Friend……?
Question by spelling nazi: My alcoholic friend……?
My best friend of 30 years is a SEVERE alcoholic. About 6 months ago she lost her relationship with her “boyfriend” and moved back in with her 80-year-old father in another state. She cannot hold a job for more than 2-3 weeks and mostly just sits around all day drinking and making long distance calls on her father’s phone. Keep in mind she’s 41 years old. She keeps texting me and calling me and saying stuff like “it’s time to go” and telling me that she might go to the funeral home and go ahead and make her arrangements, etc. When I tell her I’m afraid she’s suicidal, she laughs and says she’d never do that. I’m a single parent trying to raise a teenager and I really don’t need the added stress of this. Nothing will get through to her and she obviously does not want to get help. She got a DUI last week and thought it was funny.
How should I handle this? Should I call her doctor and discuss this stuff with him, or should I just ignore her and go about my own life?

you need to let her do what she is doing… at 41, drinking as you describe, she could die anytime, and she knows that
