Treatments for Alcoholics: How Legal Is It for a Doctor to Corner You While Your Alone?

Question by : How legal is it for a doctor to corner you while your alone?
How legal is it for a doctor to corner you while your alone, while in the hospital and tell you that you have to have to listen to them and people who question him die?

My fiancee is suffering from liver dysfunction; but had a small bowel obstruction and he was hospitalized and almost died. Then while recovering he was corned alone (and he was only alone for 5-10 min at a time either his mother or I were at his side 99% of the time) and said; “Some times i have to scare my patients so i can force them to get the the treatment they need. patients that do not listen to me are dead.”

The thing is He has done everything he is asked for treatment and lifestyle wise. Though they chose to not believe it he was never an alcoholic. Drinking did not help him but he stopped any alcohol the moment he was told he had liver issues no DT’s like you would expect if he was a “hardened alcoholic” like they believe. I am sure he has a genetic disorder that is as much or a bigger problem for his internal health. It is called Marfan Syndrome and is a Fibrillin-1 mutation; but that’s besides the point.

My true question is: is it legal to bully your patients as a medical professional and if it isn’t what can be done about it? He is afraid they will mess with his carts so that he wont be able to get a transplant down the road if he stands up for himself.
It should be noted that he was being pressured to do a procedure on his liver at the time without any information provided about it and still on meds that would have clouded his mind.
I am not asking about suing him I am asking about the ethics and if there should be a complaint to the people who oversee the doctors there.

I have lived with him for 7 years he only drank socially.

I find it hard to believe a physician did any of what your fiancee is claiming.

Bottom line is that a physician cannot force treatment upon a patient. Altering a patient chart is a federal offense. Your fiancee should get a copy of his records.
